Kanye West "Slavery was a choice" memes

Image
On May 1st of 2018, Kanye West came in as a guest for an interview with TMZ. They talked about many different topics including politics, sports, and racism throughout the world that is still going on. During the conversation about "free thought" with TMZ host Candace Owens, Kanye says "when you hear about slavery for 400 years. For 400 years?! That sounds like a choice. This had the nation in uproar, so many African Americans crossed the country were disgusted by his words. He became a big target of many memes, criticizing his foolish words. Race is the target of this topic and the memes I chose.    The three memes I chose are listed below. 1. 1. The first meme is a picture from Kanye speaking during the TMZ interview, with emoji's added to the picture and the face of an African American male making a gesture of complete shock. This meme shows the disbelief if many African Americans across the world that were alarmed by his words. He spoke on such a seriou...

Phil Booth. Jay-Z jet ski meme

Image
This was the Jay-z meme I chose last week for my blog. Throughout my findings for memes that have come about from this picture seem to refer to gender. As mentioned before Jay-z is an iconic figure, labeled one of the greatest rappers ever, extremely successful businessman, and is married to Beyonce. Making them one of the most powerful couples in the world. Jay-Z is known for his gangster style of rapping, once drug dealer before rapping, hard core New York rapper, street credibility and someone who stays out the spotlight to keep to himself. Jay-z on a jet ski shows him coming out of his comfort zone, doing things that people are not accustomed to see him doing.    There are many factors that made this meme go viral. First of all, as exciting as jet skiing may be, Jay-z does not seem to be excited at all, expressing no emotion on his face which is the normal for him. Secondly, everybody knows that the idea to go jet skiing had to come from Beyonce since they w...

Stock Characters

Stock Character #1- Crying Michael Jordan (meme) Michael Jordan was arguably the greatest player to ever play the game of basketball when he played for the Chicago Bulls. The passion he played the game with, his killer instinct in big moments, his will to win, and competitive spirit is what made him so admired by his fans and peers he played against. The Michael Jordan crying meme comes from Jordans' Basketball hall of fame induction speech in Springfield, Massachusetts of September 11th of 2009. Jordan started crying even before the speech started. He approached the podium and broke down into tears. Five minutes later the internet took off with a picture of Jordan crying and it became the face of many memes. The meme became so funny because Jordan was the type of person that never showed emotion and hated being in the spotlight for any reason. So to see him cry on national television in front of the whole world was a moment the people could not pass up on. Stock Character #2- ...

LeBron Meme

Image
I chose this meme for my first blog post because LeBron's face in this photo depicts the actual reality for his type of emotion on the court. As a basketball player, this meme related to me in many ways because of the emotional experience on the court that I can relate to as well. This meme also is very funny to many sports fans and viewers and that provides a reasonable explanation for why this particular meme is all over social media outlets. I have also noticed that many social media outlets constantly create LeBron memes and there are numerous ones that circulate the digital network. I am interested to see and learn throughout this class why certain sports figures, like LeBron James, continuously have memes created from their behaviors and statements that are supported by large audiences all over the world.
